- Exchanges: South Carolina’s Health Planning Committee submitted its final report on the feasibility of a state-based exchange in November 2011. The Committee concluded that South Carolina should instead encourage the establishment of private exchanges. Both the governor’s office and the Department of Insurance have expressed no further plans to implement a state-run exchange program.
- Medicaid Expansion: Governor Nikki Haley announced in July that South Carolina will not expand Medicaid.
- Medicare Advantage Enrollment: South Carolina currently has 166,905 seniors and people with disabilities enrolled in Medicare Advantage, or about 20% of all Medicare beneficiaries.
