- Exchanges: The North Dakota Insurance Department began studying health reform issues – including exchanges – in 2011. Exchange legislation was introduced in 2011, but did not pass. North Dakota did not have a legislative session in 2012.
- Essential Health Benefits: North Dakota’s insurance commissioner submitted a letter to federal regulators in March 2012 asking for additional time to select a benchmark plan. Commissioner Adam Hamm noted that the state’s legislature is the only entity authorized to make the decision, but does not meet in 2012.
- Medicaid Expansion: Governor Jack Dalrymple has said he supports Medicaid expansion in North Dakota.
- Medicare Advantage Enrollment: North Dakota currently has 3,368 seniors and people with disabilities enrolled in Medicare Advantage, or about 3% of all Medicare beneficiaries.
