- Exchanges: Mississippi is currently in the planning phase of its state exchange implementation. Rather than a new exchange bill, the state opted to have the pre-existing Mississippi Comprehensive Health Insurance Risk Pool Association assume operational responsibilities for creating an exchange, subject to supervision by the Department of Insurance. In July, after the Supreme Court ruling, Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney said that state officials will delay a decision on the exchange until after the November election.
- Essential Health Benefits: The Mississippi Health Insurance Exchange Advisory Board issued a report selecting a recommended EHB benchmark in 2012. However, the study was conducted using a blinded approach, and it is uncertain which specific benchmark option was chosen.
- Medicare Advantage Enrollment: Mississippi currently has 65,704 seniors and people with disabilities enrolled in Medicare Advantage, or about 13% of all Medicare beneficiaries.
