“Democrats pushing to roll back the insurance industry’s anti-trust exemption suffered a blow from a new Congressional Budget Office analysis that says the move “would have no significant effect on the premiums that private insurers would charge for health insurance.” The CBO analyzed the bill passed last week by the House Judiciary Committee.”
“The CBO analysis undercuts Democrats’ main argument for revoking the exemption, that it will bring competition and lower prices. And it bolsters the insurance industry’s argument that the bill has little to do with controlling costs, but rather is a political shot fired by Democrats unhappy with the industry’s increasingly aggressive opposition to key provisions of health reform.”
